Citric acid, 1 lb. |
Citric acid is one of the most widely used acids in the cosmetic industry, it is derived from citrus fruit by fermentation of crude sugars. Used as a preservative to adjust acid-alkali balance. It is also used as an astringent, alone or in astringent compounds. Among the cosmetic products in which it is frequently found are freckle and nail bleaches, bath preparations, skin fresheners, depilatories and hair rinses. It is also taken internally as a refreshing drink with water and sugar added.
One of the most common uses is with potatoes, salads, and fruits such as apples to help preserve their natural color. Cover the food items with water and sprinkle approximately 1 tablespoon per half gallon of liquid and let it set for 30 or so minutes and then drain. No known toxicity.
Citric acid is the main ingredient in "fizzy bath bombs", the type one throws into a filled bathtub and the "bomb" begins fizzing once it hits the water.
Dry Ingredients: 1 cup baking soda,1/2 cup citric acid,1/2 cup corn starch. Sieve dry ingredients til you get a nice smooth blend. (Optional: add 1/3 cup Epsom salts or coarse sea salt after sieving). Spray the dry mixture with witch hazel until it is the texture of sand like you would make a sand castle with, THEN add your citric acid and mix it in with your hands.
Wet Ingredients:2-1/2 T. sunflower or other light oil, 3/4 T. water, 1 to 2 teaspoons essential oils or fragrance oils, vegetable or other natural colorant (optional).
Combine wet ingredients in a jar. Cover tightly and shake vigorously. Drizzle onto dry ingredients and blend thoroughly. Pack tightly into molds and set out to dry overnight. They should release easily!
INCI: Citric Acid.
NOTE: Purity of our citric acid (anhydrous): Assay calculated on the anhydrous basis....Specification 99.5% to100.5%, test results 100.21%. This is a GMO free product (USP/FCC/Kosher/Granular), white or colorless crystals.

Glycerin USP 99%, Kosher 1 lb. |
Sold by weight! This is a very thick, white-like-water liquid. The container in which we dispense this product may not be filled to the top, i.e., 7 lbs. will be dispensed in a gallon jug and the jug will be filled halfway. Glycerin is an odorless, colorless, syrupy liquid which may be derived from olive oil, palm or coconut. Glycerin has long been used as a benign solvent, lubricant, humectant, emollient and preservative. In lotions and creams the recommended usage is 2-5%. Glycerin is used as a carrier for an active ingredient, is sweet tasting, warming to the skin and edible. Glycerin is used as the main ingredient in edible love oils. In herbology, glycerin's naturally sweet taste helps mask the flavor of bitter-tasting herbs and can be used to make more potent extracts than either alcohol or vinegar. Of the annual glycerol production in the U.S., about 40 percent is manufactured as a by-product of soap manufacturing. Our glycerin is edible and MADE IN THE U.S. WITHOUT INGREDIENTS FROM CHINA.

Zinc oxide powder, USP, 8 oz. |
Zinc oxide is a natural mineral which has been used safely for generations to shield against the harmful effects of the sun. Zinc oxide forms a protective physical barrier over the skin and stops the harmful UV rays, providing the most complete protection. Because it absorbs ultraviolet light, zinc oxide can be used in ointments, creams, and lotions to protect against sunburn. Some ointment-based preparations such as zinc oxide are water repellent and stay on even during swimming. Zinc oxide is ideal for the nose and ears while swimming. A deodorant can be made simply from zinc oxide which works by killing underarm bacteria so they won't smell. You can also use it as a diaper rash ointment or on your nose as a complete sun block. Just add water to desired consistency. Zinc oxide is the main active ingredient in Desitin Diaper Rash Ointment. Ours is not micronized and is USP.

Menthol Crystals, Small, 99.4 purity, 2 oz. |
Dispensed by weight.
Menthol Crystals, botanical name Mentha arvensis, steam distilled. These are clear, colorless, needle-like crystals with odor resembling that of peppermint which are soluble in alcohol, essential oils and olive oil but almost insoluble in water and glycerin. Melting point 41°C to 44°C (105.8°F to 111.2°F), boils at 212°C (413.6°F). Menthol crystals start to evaporate at 21°C (70°F). The crystals contains not less than 99.4% menthol.
Menthol is the chief constituent of peppermint oil and is responsible for its odor and taste and the "cooling sensation" when applied to the skin and mucosal surfaces. Mentha piperita contains up to 50% menthol and Mentha arvensis contains 70-80% menthol. Menthol should be kept in a cool place in well-stoppered bottles. Menthol is the solid constituent of oil of peppermint, to which its characteristic odor is due, and was formerly known as peppermint camphor. Menthol is obtained by subjecting the distilled oil of peppermint to a temperature of -22° C, (-7.6° F.) by the aid of a freezing mixture. The menthol crystallizes out in satiny crystals and the mother liquor is removed while the low temperature is maintained.
Menthol and its derivatives can also be added to various peppermint type compositions to enhance the cooling and freshening effects. Menthol is used in pharmaceutical, confectionery and flavoring industries.
In ointments, liniments, and solutions menthol crystals are employed in strengths ranging from 5 to 20 per cent. The crystals are commonly applied to cosmetics, salves and balms, which are created to assist in coughs, congestion, upper respiratory problems, and the flu. Menthol crystals are great inhalants by themselves and are easily combined into recipes. Add several drops to a bowl of hot, steamy water and carefully inhale the soothing vapors through the mouth and nose for stuffiness and bronchitis. Use a few drops on the tiles of the walls surrounding your shower (not on the floor!) and the menthol will be released by the steam created by the hot water.
Externally, it is employed as a local analgesic. Diluted and rubbed on the skin, it produces a sensation of cold, followed by numbness and partial anesthesia; it first stimulates the nerves, conveying the sensation of cold, and later penetrates the skin and paralyzes the nerve endings.
Known ingredients of Vicks VapoRub: Camphor, menthol, eucalyptus, cedarleaf, nutmeg, thymol and turpentine.

Menthol Crystals, Small, 99.4 purity, 1 oz. |
Dispensed by weight. Menthol Crystals (Mentha arvensis), steam distilled. These are clear, colorless, crystals with odor resembling that of peppermint which are soluble in alcohol, essential oils and vegetable/nut oils, but almost insoluble in water and glycerin. Using Polysorbate 20 is recommended for water applications. Melting point 41 C to 44 C (105.8 F to 111.2 F), boils at 212 C (413.6 F). Menthol crystals start to evaporate at 21 C (70 F). The crystals contains not less than 99.4% menthol.

Mentha piperita contains up to 50% menthol and Mentha arvensis contains 70-80% menthol. Menthol crystals should be kept in a cool place in a well-capped container. Menthol is the solid constituent of oil of peppermint, to which its characteristic odor is due, and was formerly known as peppermint camphor. Menthol crystals are great inhalants by themselves and are easily combined into recipes. Add several drops to a bowl of hot, steamy water and carefully inhale the soothing vapors through the mouth and nose for stuffiness and bronchitis. Once you have converted it to liquid, use a few drops on the tiles of the walls surrounding your shower (not on the floor!) and the menthol will be released by the steam created by the hot water.
Menthol crystals are soluble in alcohol, EOs/FOS and oil but almost insoluble in water and glycerin. Polysorbate 20 will dissolve them in water. Use rate: 1 part menthol to 3-4 parts Poly 20.
Because menthol and alcohol are very strong it's important to keep the temp no higher than 41°C (106°F). Menthol crystals start to evaporate at 21°C (70°F) so you will get a whiff just before they hit that melt point. Best to remove and let them finish melting off heat to avoid the vapors.
If used in soapmaking, it might be best to put them in the oil phase so that they don't interfere with the action of the lye in the water phase. In whatever recipe you will use menthol crystals, make sure they’re well stirred and dissolved to avoid skin reactions.

Melting point 41̊C to 44̊C (105.8̊F to 111.2̊F), boils at 212̊C (413.6̊F). Menthol crystals start to evaporate at 21̊C
Menthol is obtained by subjecting the distilled oil of peppermint to a temperature of -22̊ C, (-7.6̊ F.) by the aid of a freezing mixture.

Zinc oxide powder, USP, 10 lbs. |

Sample your essential and fragrance oils as well as finished perfumes the way professional perfumers do: use a professional perfume test strip! The thin end may be inserted into a narrow vial, the thick paddle end may be inserted into wider vials or the scent may be sprayed on that area. These are professional grade, pure perfume testers free of any additives. Always use the same tester strip for the same product, do not mix them, and do not mix tester strips from different vendors. Discard when finished.
Proper way of sampling scents: Label the strip on the end which will not be dipped into the oil. Dip the unlabeled end of th | | | | |
