Almond, sweet, oil, 1 lb.

You will receive 1 lb of oil, dispensed by weight. Almond (Sweet) Prunus amygdalus, P. dulcis: Sweet almond oil is obtained from the nut of the tree, which is native to Asia and the Mediterranean. This oil is a favorite carrier oil for essential oil aromatherapy blends, although it’s often used by itself for moisturizing skin. The oil has no scent and is a great nutrient for softening and conditioning the skin. It's been known to be especially suitable for eczema, itchy, dry and inflamed skin. Since it contains glucosides, vitamins and minerals, it makes a fabulous massage oil. Sweet almond oil is widely used in lotions, lotion bars, balms and soap; it saponifies easily and produces a mild soap with very good lather. This oil can be used as a large percentage of the fats or as an oil added at trace. It’s recommended that you add just one ounce per pound of fats to the soap batch. Some users find that this oil goes rancid quickly, others feel they have no problem with the shelf life of almond oil. Sweet almond should be stored in a cool place or refrigerated. SAP value: 192.5. INCI: Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil. Our Sweet almond oil is edible and is high in monounsaturated fat; these fats are typically liquid at room temperature, but solidify when refrigerated. Consuming foods high in monounsaturated fats may reduce the risk of heart attacks. Instead of sauteeing that chicken in butter, try almond oil. It’s a delicious way to do something good for your heart.

Castor oil (Ricinus communis L) 7 lbs.

Sold by weight. Ricinus communis L. This oil, derived from the castor bean and obtained by cold pressure, is rich in fatty acids and very moisturizing and lubricating to the skin in general. It acts as a humectant, attracting moisture to the skin. Castor oil packs applied with warm flannel are believed effective for pain relief and to “draw out” cysts, boils and warts.

Ayurvedic medicine has long used castor oil for lumbago, sciatica and rheumatism. In the Canary Islands the oil is used to prevent sore nipples in nursing mothers and is also rubbed onto their scalps to prevent post natal hair loss. In soapmaking, although castor oil would appear to require less sodium hydroxide, it sometimes requires more due to its high ricinoleic acid content. It’s also a well-known superfatting agent and well suited for shampoo bars and skin-care products. Without other oils, it produces a transparent soft soap. In combination with over vegetable oils, however, it makes a wonderfully emollient, hard bar of soap. SAP value: 180.3. INCI: Ricinus communis (castor) seed oil.

From folk medicine: Castor oil fomentations are recommended for ridding the body of hardened mucus in the form of cysts, tumors and polyps. The castor oil is applied by soaking a flannel cloth in the oil and applying it over the liver. A hot water bottle or electric heating pad is applied on top of the pack and left on the area for 30 to 60 minutes. This is repeated daily for three days followed by olive oil massages over the same area for three days. On the seventh day, it is recommended by some that the patient should rest by fasting on nothing but distilled water. Depending on the particular case, this procedure should be repeated for between six weeks to six months to properly cleanse the system.

Materials Needed To Make A Castor Oil Pack (1) Three layers of natural, uncolored wool or flannel cotton large enough to cover the area being treated. (2) Castor oil. (3) Plastic wrap large enough to cover the cloth. (4) Hot water bottle or electric blanket. Procedure: (1) Soak cotton with castor oil. It should be saturated but not dripping. (2) Place the pack on the area being treated, for example lower right abdomen [liver]. (3) Cover the pack with plastic wrap and place a hot water bottle over the pack. (4) Leave the pack on for 30-60 minutes. Use the castor oil pack 3-7 days per week. Precautions include avoiding meal times, not using the pack during heavy menses, and avoiding contact with fabric that could become stained. The same pack may be used for weeks or months. Refresh with additional oil if necessary. Conditions are said to have been responsive to castor oil applications include (please consult with a health care professional before you apply a castor pack; the information we provide below is just that, information which is readily available to all either in books or on the web): skin keratosis; ringworm, fungal and bacterial infections; wounds; abdominal stretch marks (prevention); bursitis; sebaceous cysts; warts; liver or age spots; muscle strains; ligament sprains; itching; chronic fluid retention with swollen joints and pain; arthritis; upper respiratory infections involving the sinuses, tonsils and inner ear; colon problems involving inflammation; gallbladder disease; boils; liver cirrhosis; hepatitis; menstrual-related congestion; constipation, bowel impaction or adhesions; bladder and vaginal infections.

Coconut oil 76 deg., 35 lbs.

Coconut oil 76 deg., pail (weight of oil: 35 lbs.) Cocos nucifera Coconut oil is obtained from copra, the dried """"meat"""" of coconut. Distillers separate the copra from the hull of the coconut. It is dried, crushed, and then expressed to remove the oil. This coconut becomes liquid at 76 degrees. When cold it becomes solid or semi-solid. Some people might call coconut oil, coconut butter. Both are the same thing. This oil has a thick texture with no taste and no odor. A percentage of coconut oil in cosmetics is moisturizing; too much of it can be drying. Its saturated nature resists rancidity and makes a very hard soap, while at the same time producing a fluffy lather. Soapmakers usually combine coconut oil with olive, palm, palm kernel or castor oils for an all-vegetable soap. Some soapmakers use between 20% and 30% of a soap batch as coconut oil. SAP value: 268.0. INCI: Cocos nucifera (coconut) oil Coconut Oil contains beneficial lauric acid, which may be of particular benefit for immune-suppressed individuals. It is more heat stable than other plant based oils and does not create trans fatty acids when cooked at higher temperatures. Use for all higher heat applications, including stir frying - Maximum temperature of 375F or 190C. Excellent for baking, can be substituted for butter in most recipes. Use in blender drinks to add fuel and energy in the morning.

Jojoba, 1 lb. (or)

Jojoba (liquid) (Simmondsia chinensis): Jojoba is very similar in composition to human natural skin oils. It penetrates the skin rapidly to nourish it and also softens and moisturizes mature and dry skin. Jojoba helps to heal inflamed skin conditions such as psoriasis or any form of dermatitis, helps control acne and oily scalps. Since it has antioxidant properties, it can keep other oils from going rancid. We offer you 100% pure jojoba, the extract of seeds produced by the jojoba plant which is expeller pressed, once. No solvents are used during this process.

Jojoba is sometimes called "jojoba oil" when it is actually an extract; it’s not an oil at all but a liquid wax ester. Our pure jojoba is pasteurized and then filtered to prevent bacteria growth. Jojoba can be decolored and deodorized; ours is neither. Our pure jojoba is a beautiful golden yellow/amber with its own aroma. Its aroma and color will vary slightly from one crop year to the next. It does not contain fillers, stabilizers, enhancers or preservatives; it contains the seed’s anti-oxidants, is non-allergenic and won’t stain linens or clothing.

Jojoba is highly concentrated, don’t apply it like a lotion. Put a small drop on the back of your hand and massage it in until you learn how much works for you. It’s gentle enough for newborn babies; soothes and restores elasticity to any dry skin area. It’s very good in cases of psoriasis, for massage and aromatherapy, scalp/hair care and for hands/cuticles. For shaving legs and faces, just moisten the skin and massage a generous amount of our pure jojoba deeply into the area to be shaved, then rinse your razor with hot water. May be used full strength or in 10% dilution. SAP value: 97.5. INCI: Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed

Lavender 40/42 essential oil, 5 lbs.

(Lavandula officinalis, steam distilled flowering top, France) Lavender's aroma is floral, herbaceous, light with woody undertones. Among its many properties, it's known to be analgesic, antidepressant, antirheumatic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, bactericide, cicatrizant, decongestant, deodorant, diuretic, fungicide, sedative. Soothes the spirit, relieves anger, valuable in manic-depressive cases. Has a sedative action on the heart, assists in bringing down high blood pressure, relieves insomnia, relieves muscular spasms and rheumatic pains. The first essential oil one should reach for in the case of minor burns and sunburn. Useful with menstrual problems, bronchitis and headaches, helps lower blood pressure. Useful in a diffuser in the delivery room. May be useful in nausea, vomiting and colic. Keeps insects at bay. Purifies the air. Promotes growth of new skin cells, great healing effect on burns and sunburn, acne, psoriasis, boils, fungal growths, and scarring. Lavender is one of the safest essential oils to use with children and the elderly. Blends well with bergamot, chamomile, citronella, lemon, and pine. Flash point: 156̊F, OK to ship via air or ocean. The numbers in Lavender 40/42 indicate the linalyl acetate content; in this case, they indicate the product contains 40-42% of linalyl acetate. Lavender 40/42 is generally a blend of various lavenders in order to get a consistent scent from batch to batch, with processors adding linalyl acetate to cover the smell of camphor or borneol components of a given lavender. Since pure essential oils (not diluted, adulterated or tampered with to make them smell better) are ""from the plant"" each lot may vary slightly (sometimes noticeably) due to the climate conditions that year, altitude of the region they're grown in, time of day harvested, etc. Most soapers seem to prefer the Lavender 40/42 because it smells the way they believe lavender should smell and it's fairly inexpensive......about half the price of other, more expensive lavenders.

Baking soda 25 lbs.(powder)

Baking Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate USP) is an alkaline salt. In addition to making cakes rise, sodium bicarbonate is found in over-the-counter antacids, toothpaste, fire extinguishers, and many other products. Sodium bicarbonate is used to treat or prevent excess acid in the blood or urine. It also can reduce stomach acids and, therefore, can be used as an antacid to treat heartburn or indigestion and is used to relieve sour stomach or acid indigestion by neutralizing excess stomach acid. When used for this purpose, it is said to belong to the group of medicines called antacids. It may be used to treat the symptoms of stomach or duodenal ulcers. Also, since the 1930's, it has been taken by some athletes to increase the speed and recovery in relatively short events, those lasting from 30 seconds to 5 minutes.

Toiletries applications: Pure baking soda can be used as an all natural tooth powder and can be diluted in warm water to gargle. It’s used as an additive in bath salts and body scrubs. It’s used as a body deodorant and as an ingredient in body powders. It’s one of the main ingredients in fizzy bath bombs (see basic recipe below).

Other applications: Food & food processing, beverages , pharmaceuticals, animal foodstuffs , household cleaning products, rubber & plastics foam blowing, fire extinguishers & explosion suppression, effluent & water treatment, flue gas treatment, oil drilling, and industrial & chemical processes.

Recipe for making fizzy bath bombs:

Dry Ingredients:

1 cup baking soda, _ cup citric acid, _ cup corn starch, Optional: 1/3 cup Epsom salts

Wet Ingredients:

2 _ T. light vegetable oil (almond oil or sunflower), 3/4 T. water, 1/4 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon of essential or fragrance oils, 1/4 teaspoon borax (emulsifier), mica or other natural colorant if you wish

Sieve the first three dry ingredients together until you get a smooth blend. After sieving, add the sea salts or epsom salts if you have decided to use them. Epsom salt adds a bit of sheen to the fizzy, might make for a more vigorous fizzing action and does shorten the drying time. Set aside dry ingredients while you prepare the wet.

Measure and combine all the wet ingredients and borax in a small clean jar or ziplock bag and shake vigorously. Slowly and carefully drizzle the wet ingredients into the dry, stirring constantly with your other hand to prevent the reaction from starting. Make sure you mix in all of the wet ingredients. You will find the mixture will be very dry and crumbly. It has to be packed into the molds quite firmly to keep the shape. The mixture should just start to hold together when pressed in your hand, like very slightly moist fine flour pressed together. Make sure it is well mixed and try to work quickly so that it doesn't dry out too much before you mold it. There’s usually no need to oil the molds. If using a round mold, such as a hanging ornament, pack each side of the mold promptly then sprinkle some loose mixture on top and press the halves together as hard as you can without twisting. Smooth the seams and remove any excess material. Molds should be clean and dry.

Zinc oxide powder, USP, 1 lb.

Zinc oxide is a natural mineral which has been used safely for generations to shield against the harmful effects of the sun. Zinc oxide forms a protective physical barrier over the skin and stops the harmful UV rays, providing the most complete protection. Because it absorbs ultraviolet light, zinc oxide can be used in ointments, creams, and lotions to protect against sunburn. Some ointment-based preparations such as zinc oxide are water repellent and stay on even during swimming. Zinc oxide is ideal for the nose and ears while swimming. A deodorant can be made simply from zinc oxide which works by killing underarm bacteria so they won't smell. You can also use it as a diaper rash ointment or on your nose as a complete sun block. Just add water to desired consistency. Zinc oxide is the main active ingredient in Desitin Diaper Rash Ointment. Ours is not micronized and is USP.

Neem seed oil, 1/2 lb.

This is a thick, dark colored oil. Neem Seed Oil, Azadirachta indica. The neem seed kernel is very rich in fatty acids, often up to 50 % of the kernel's weight. Neem seed oil is very bitter with a garlic/sulfur smell; it contains vitamin E and other essential amino acids. Neem oil is an excellent moisturizing oil that contains compounds with historical and scientific validity as medicinals.

Neem is also known as Nimba, Margosa or Indian Tulip Tree Oil, which is a traditional treatment for severely damaged skin. Neem seed oil is not an essential oil. Our Neem oil is cold pressed, no solvents are used in its processing and its origin is from India.

The concentrated essential fatty acids help to restore moisture and elasticity to the skin while it disinfects and heals. Apply sparingly several times a day to affected areas. You may also add 20 to 25 drops of Neem Oil to 8 ounces of your favorite shampoo, massage oil or lotion.

As a natural pesticide: Using neem derivatives for managing pests is a non-violent approach to controlling pests. Neem products work by intervening at several stages of the insect's life. They may not kill the pest instantaneously but incapacitate it in several ways. Neem very subtly employs effects such as repellence, feeding and ovipositional deterrence, growth inhibition, mating disruption, chemo-sterilization, etc..

Extracts from neem have shown incredible success with not only battling fungus problems but also many forms of root rot. Neem biodegrades in a matter of weeks when exposed to the sunlight. Pure Neem oil will retain its potency much longer if stored in a cool place away from strong light. Here are some tips on using Neem oil: (1) Don’t mix any more than you need. (2) Add water and a little soap to the plant before spraying. (3) Spray the complete plant including the potting media. (4) Mix 1 oz. in 1 gallon of water. A weaker solution may be used for maintenance. INCI: Azadirachta indica.

Cinnamon stick, 2-3/4 in., 5 lbs.

Sold by weight. Cinnamon, (Cinnamomum cassia), 2-3/4" stick, Indonesia, a/k/a canela, cassia. Cinnamon is the dried inner bark of a tropical evergreen tree, of which there are about 100 different species, all with similar aromatic properties. A cinnamon stick is formed from a scrolled portion of bark. We sprinkle it on toast, stir it into hot apple cider and find it in toothpastes and candies. But cinnamon is more than a sweet treat. It’s one of the world’s oldest healers. And modern science has confirmed its value for prevention of infection and indigestion. Cinnamon grew originally in southern Asia. Ancient Chinese herbals mention it as early as 2700 B.C. as a treatment for fever, diarrhea and menstrual problems. India’s ancient Ayurvedic healers used it similarly. When ancient travelers introduced the aromatic herb to the Egyptians, they added it enthusiastically to their embalming mixtures. Egyptian demand for cinnamon played a major role in ancient trade. Modern herbalists recommend cinnamon to relieve nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and indigestion, and as a flavoring agent for bitter-tasting healing-herb preparations. They can’t quite agree about how it affects the uterus. Some say it stimulates uterine contractions, others say it calms the uterus. Cinnamon is a powerful antiseptic, it kills many decay- and disease-causing bacteria, fungi and viruses. Cinnamon contains the natural anesthetic oil eugenol which might help relieve the pain of household mishaps. Some herbalists say it may bring on menstruation. Avoid if pregnant or breastfeeding. For a warm, sweet, spicy infusion, use _ to 3/4 teaspoon of powdered herb per cup of boiling water. Drink up to 3 cups a day. Not for children under age 2. For older children and persons over 65, start with low-strength preparations and increase strength if necessary. In powdered form, culinary amounts of cinnamon are nontoxic, though allergic reactions are possible. For cooking: Use cinnamon sticks for flavoring poaching liquids or for steeping in milk for custards or custard sauces. Add sticks to cold liquid then bring to a simmer. If preparing a wine poaching liquid for fruit, cook the cinnamon sticks in the liquid along with the fruit. If using the cinnamon sticks to flavor milk for a custard, add it to the cold milk, bring to a simmer, then remove from the heat. Cover and let the milk steep with the cinnamon in it. If the sticks are very long and tightly wound, break them into pieces with your hands, then use the flat side of a knife to break it up so that more surfaces are exposed.

Polysorbate 80, 1 lb.

Sold by weight. Our Polysorbate 80 (polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate) is derived from olive oil. It is a non-toxic, nonionic surfactant/emulsifier and a water-soluble yellowish liquid used as a dispersing agent which allows oil and water to mix without the use of alcohol. It’s a fragrance solubilizer and stabilizer; it lubricates and has a soothing effect on the skin. This skin- safe ingredient is used extensively in oil-in-water emulsions (lotions, conditioners, cream rinses, shampoos, liquid soaps, body polishes or scrubs, etc.) and also for body mists and linen sprays. Will be found as an ingredient in many body toiletries, cosmetics and wipes now in the market. Polysorbates are generally used in combination with other emulsifiers such as mono- and diglycerides or sorbitan monostearates for various purposes such as to disperse flavors and colors, to make essential oils and vitamins soluble and to improve volume and texture in baked goods. Use Polysorbate 80 when lots of foaming action is desired in the finished product.

Start with a ratio of 1:1. For example, for every ounce of essential or fragrance oil mix with one ounce of Polysorbate 20. It’s extremely important to mix well. Then add enough distilled water to allow you to make your blend or product. If the results are still too cloudy for you, you may need to increase the Polysorbate 20 to 3 parts to 1 or 4 parts to 1. Sometimes, the denser the oil the more Polysorbate 80 you will need. INCI: Polysorbate 80.

Wood soap mold, hinged, with lid, 4 lb capacity. NO DISCOUNTS!

THIS MOLD DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR ANY DISCOUNTS!! Stained, solid wood soap mold with hinged sides and pegged ends which make it very easy to remove the finished soap. A lid with a knob is included, you may leave the lid off when making M&P soap. This mold must be lined before pouring the soap mixture in the mold! The lid fits inside the mold, it does not sit on the edge of the mold.

How to use: (Option 1) Line mold with freezer paper across one side of the mold. Line the other side of the mold with freezer paper laid across and on top of the first liner. Let the flaps hang over the edges of the mold. Another liner you could use is a clean trash bag making sure you straighten out any wrinkles. (Option 2) Turn the mold upside down. Lay freezer paper over the mold as if you were gift-wrapping the bottom and sides. Once you do this, you will have the exact shape of the mold. Place the paper inside the mold, pat it down with your fingers or a straight edge, allow any edges to overlap and tape them down with masking tape if you wish. (3) Pour soap into the mold, cover the soap with plastic wrap and place the lid on top. Doing this eliminates the need for insulating the mold with blankets or other coverings. (3) Do not clean the mold with water, do not soak it in water, clean any leftover soap with a scraper, you may wipe with a damp cloth, allow to dry before storing. (4) Use gloves when removing the finished soap from the mold.

Measurements: Outside dimensions length 16", width 5", height 4". Inside dimensions length 14.5", width 3.5", height approx. 3.5". Made in the U.S..

NOTE: This mold is made as orders come in which means the mold may not be ready the same day you place your order. We keep several in stock but demand for this mold is quite high. We will ship your order as soon as a mold is ready. Depending on other items in your order, this mold may have to ship separately in a box by itself to keep it from being damaged while in transit to you. If additional S&H is due because of this, we will charge the card on file or ask you to disburse funds via PayPal if you paid with PayPal.
