Regarding sodium hydroxide, hereafter referred to as lye:
If it is soap, it has lye in it. Lye is what induces saponification to create soap. While many new soapmakers may be terrified of using lye for making soap, it is the primary ingredient in handcrafted soap. Several precautions must be taken when handling, storing and using lye along with lots of common sense. The definition of an accident is "something going wrong unexpectedly" and so many things can go wrong when the user is not paying attention.
STORAGE: Please store away from children, the mentally challenged, the elderly and pets. Store in a properly marked container indicating that a dangerous material is stored inside the container. Do not store lye, either in its dry or liquid form, in a container where a person or a pet might mistake it for food, i.e. storing a lye solution in a soda bottle, storing dry lye in a Tupperware container. Please keep lye away from water, flammable liquids, water heaters and stoves. You and you alone are going to be responsible for any accidents arising from the improper storage of this dangerous product.
HANDLING: Unless you have had many years of experience working with lye and know what you are doing, you should use a dust mask, goggles with full eye coverage and chemical-proof gloves or nitrile disposable gloves. Also recommended are long pants, long sleeves, socks, shoes, try to have as much skin covered up as possible. Announce to the rest of your family that you will be handling a dangerous chemical for the next hour or so and ask them to stay away from your work area. If pets or children may pose a distraction to you, work on your soapmaking once they are out of the way.....outside, in school, sleeping. You and you alone are going to be responsible for any accidents arising from the improper handling of this dangerous product.
TRANSPORTING: It is not recommended that you drive around with a container of lye in your car. If you must transport lye, it must be transported in an enclosed vehicle....no open truck beds, no motorcycles or bicycles.

Great to use for laundry detergent or for soapmaking. Great quality and cheap price.

Ease of use packaging
The beads in this product are very tiny, more like grains of sand. The top has a wide mouth so at first I have to scoop out with a spoon, but after it gets down, I can pour it out. The beads are nice and dry and do not stick, which is good from a safety perspective. The product does not seem to have any impurities and works wonderfully with my cold process soaps.

Very easy to use lye
I've made soap for over 15 years, and this is one of the easiest lyes to use. What could be difficult about using lye? Lye can clump, making it difficult to measure and pour. The bead-like texture of this one makes it pour like cereal rather than clumpy dish powder. Lye can have trouble dissolving. This one dissolves easily. Lye can leave a powdery residue floating on top of the water if it isn't pure enough. This one leaves the water crystal clear. The price is cheaper and the quality is better than what you can find at your local hardware stores. I've used them all, and Camden-Grey's lye is the best.

Awesome!!! Product and Staff
I purchased this product thinking oh God!! But I love the fact that it well packaged , secure but like others I do wish it had screw top. Plus I love that when you call for information that the staff is great, polite and they sound like they love their jobs.

It works great, and I like the beads. I do agree with other reviewers, though: the tops of the buckets are hard to get off. Normally, that wouldn't be an issue, but I'm always worried that I'll end up spilling the bucket while I'm tugging with my gloves on. A screw top would definitely be preferable.
OUT OF STOCK ISSUES: If a customer orders a large quantity of a product and all of the product is not in stock when the order is entered into our system, once the new stock arrives we will ship separately whatever quantity we may owe the customer. Most of our restocking orders arrive at our warehouse 5-7 business days after we place a restocking order, sometimes sooner. Should the distiller or vendor inform us restocking will take longer than 7 business days, we’ll promptly notify the customer.
Please note that we do not allow order cancellations for any reason and we don’t allow removal/cancellations of products which become partially or completely out of stock after the customer places an order.
Raw materials/ingredients are dispensed by weight. Many customers ask how many ounces in a pound, there are 16 ounces in one pound. These are not fluid ounces, they are ounces by weight.
EO = essential oil
FO = fragrance oil
Our containers are filled with products to where our commercial digital scales indicate the container should be filled. Some containers will be filled to the top, some will not.
HOW OILS ARE DISPENSED: All our products are dispensed by weight. EO's in 8 oz. through 2 lbs. - amber plastic pharmaceutical-grade bottle. EO's in 5 and 10 lbs. - heavy duty plastic container w/pouring spout, the oil may remain inside the container at least 2 months. EO's in sizes of 25+ lbs. - industry-standard metal or plastic can with a pouring spout, the oil may remain inside the metal can indefinitely and up to 2 months in the plastic pail. It's our decision in which type of pail we dispense the product, metal cans are not readily available. CARRIER OILS - plastic bottles/pails depending on the size ordered, do not need to be transferred to glass unless you wish to do so. FO's - in plastic containers, contents do not need to be transferred to glass unless you wish to do so.
Essential oils in sizes from ½ oz. to 4 oz. are dispensed in amber glass bottles without orifice reducers or glass droppers. If we ever run out of amber glass bottles, we reserve the right to use any other glass bottle available at that time. The only sizes of EO's dispensed with orifice reducers are 1/32, 1/16, 1/8 and 1/4 oz. sizes. If you require bottles/vials with orifice reducers or Eurodroppers, we sell those separately.
HOW TO STORE: Upon receipt, EO's dispensed in plastic bottles MUST be transferred into amber glass bottles. EO's, FO's and BUTTERS should be stored in tightly-sealed containers away from direct light and heat. Many oils could be highly flammable, keep away from open flames. Refrigerating butters could adversely affect the consistency of the butter, please join our Forum if you need to learn how to handle and store products.
