    Zinc oxide (ZnO) is a natural mineral which has been used safely for generations to shield against the harmful effects of the sun. It is a very fine, amorphous white or ivory-white powder. Our zinc oxide is of extremely high quality and purity to meet all U.S. Pharmacopoeia and European Pharmacopoeia standards as per USP33 NF28, it is made from primary grade zinc. Our zinc oxide is not micronized and is not classified as NANO.

    Zinc oxide is a superb broad-spectrum blocker, it blocks the sun’s rays (acts as a reflective shield). It offers broad spectrum protection. In turn, this reduces UVA-induced free-radical production in the deeper layers of the skin.

    From the manufacturer: This product is non-GMO, has not been irradiated nor produced with sewage sludge and is food grade. (Note from Camden-Grey: All products sold on our website are for external use only.) This is a/k/a French process zinc oxide which is produced from primary grade zinc. All natural minerals, including clays and zinc oxide, contain trace amounts of heavy metals including lead. However, given that the zinc oxide Camden-Grey purchases is sold to us as cosmetic grade, the product consistently tests below the USP protocol limit for lead.

    Zinc oxide is an ingredient found in many products, including certain creams and ointments used to prevent or treat minor skin burns and irritation, it is nearly insoluble in water. Zinc oxide forms a protective physical barrier over the skin and stops harmful UV rays, providing the most complete protection. Zinc oxide is particularly valuable because of its ability to filter UVA as well as UVB light, giving broad protection from damaging sunlight. It can be used in ointments, creams and lotions to protect against sunburn. It should not be inhaled in powder form for continuous periods of time or on a daily basis. All products sold on our website are for external use only.

    Various ointment-based preparations which incorporate zinc oxide are water repellent and stay on even during swimming. A deodorant can be made simply from zinc oxide which works by killing underarm bacteria to eliminate or reduce smell. You can also use zinc oxide as a diaper rash ointment or on your nose (as a paste mixed with water) as a complete sun block; just add distilled or purified water to desired consistency. Zinc oxide is the main active ingredient in Desitin Diaper Rash Ointment.

    Historically, when used in sunscreens, zinc oxide is visible, giving the skin a white color, it sits on the skin. It s non-irritating and non-allergenic.

    Arsenic: No more than 6 ppm.

    Lead: Typical 15 ppm.

    Particle size (microns): Typical 0.24. Mean particle size: min. 0.24, max. 0.35. This is 112USP used in cosmetic products.

    Country of origin: Canada.

    INCI: Zinc oxide.

    Shelf life: The overall concensus is that zinc oxide does not have an expiration date and does not deteriorate over time. Zinc oxide is said to have an indefinite shelf life, is extremely stable and can tolerate high heat, UV light and moisture without disintegration. Some suppliers, in order to play it safe, state that zinc oxide (when properly stored, tightly sealed) has a shelf life of up to 3 years.

    PACKAGING:  Purchasing 10 lbs., 25 lbs. or larger quantities of a powder product (clay, pumice or any product listed in our Salts, Sugars & Powders category) doesn’t mean you’ll receive one package containing all of the pounds purchased.  We will prepare individual plastic bags whose weights will add up to the total number of purchased pounds.  For example, do not expect 25 lbs. of a powder product to be packed in one 25 lb. bag.  There could be the rare occasion where we could receive from the manufacturer a 50 lb. factory-sealed bag and we’ll turn around and ship the same bag to a customer who ordered 50 lbs. of a powder product.

    I used this to make a simple sunscreen for my family. It worked very well. No sunburns to report :). Of course, it does make the skin appear "pasty". I don't mind though. I will be making it again this summer.
    No complaints.

    I use this Zinc Oxide for a baby butt balm, together with the wild crafted coconut oil. It disperses easily and feels great. It's also very competitively priced.
    Wonderful Product!

    I go through a lot of Zinc Oxide - in mineral makeup, lotions and balms. This is just perfect - it blends smoothly into my lotions and balms without clumping, settling or separating at all!

    CofA: Download

    Thanks for browsing thru this section which contains answers to many questions that are often asked of us. Here we explain where to locate CofA and SDS for a product, how we dispense and package our products, how products should be stored, basic terminology and the wait time for bulk products to ship from our warehouse. FYI: We're closed on Fridays.

    Certificate of Analysis (CofA) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS). We publish on our website those documents for most of our products, some products don't provide either because the product doesn't require it. In this same section where you're at now, look to the tab to the left titled Documents, click on it and that's where you'll find either document for the product you seek. If you do not find the document you require, please email us at customerservice@camdengrey.com so we can research further.

    BULK ITEMS: When a customer adds a bulk item to the cart, the customer’s immediately shown on the screen how many number of days should be allowed for the bulk product to arrive at our warehouse. If the bulk item happens to be in stock, we’ll ship sooner than the customer would expect. As we emerge from Covid, logistics operations are not yet back to normal, what used to arrive at our warehouse in 3 days now takes much longer. Should a vendor inform us the ordered product will take longer than what’s mentioned on our website we’ll email the customer with the latest information.

    TERMINOLOGY:

    EO = essential oil

    FO = fragrance oil

    HOW PRODUCTS ARE DISPENSED...

    BOTTLING/PACKAGING:

    Essential oils: in 1/32 oz. to 1/4 oz...amber glass vials with orifice reducers. ½ oz. to 2 oz...in amber glass bottles with white caps and Eurodroppers...3 to 4 oz. in amber glass bottles with black caps and without orifice reducers...7 oz. in aluminum bottles...15 oz. in amber glass bottles with black caps...10 & 25 lbs. in HDPE plastic containers with wide mouths although, occasionally, 25 lbs. may be dispensed in factory-issued metal containers with pouring spouts.

    28 lbs. of carrier oils and other liquids are dispensed in individual HDPE plastic gallon containers with handles, each holds the purchased net weight of liquid.

    30+ lbs. of carrier oils, other liquids, soft butters, Castile gel and other products are dispensed in plastic HDPE pails w/metal handles & pouring spouts in the lid; those products may remain inside the pails indefinitely when properly stored. After Covid, we reserve the right to use any packaging/dispensing container available to us and not mentioned above because it continues to be difficult many times to restock the same packaging container or material used in the past.

    NOTE: An EO may safely remain inside an aluminum container for up to 3 months, but if storing longer than 3 months the oil should be transferred to amber glass. Fragrances and carrier oils up to 8 lbs. may remain inside HDPE plastic bottles indefinitely. If the customer at any time feels more comfortable transferring a product to glass this should be done. ALL PRODUCTS ARE DISPENSED BY WEIGHT, THUS, SOME CONTAINERS MAY BE FILLED HIGHER THAN OTHERS DEPENDING ON THE WEIGHT AND VISCOSITY OF EACH PRODUCT.

    Raw materials/ingredients are dispensed by weight. Many customers ask how many ounces in a pound, there are 16 ounces in one pound. These are not fluid ounces, they are ounces by weight.

    HOW TO STORE: EOs, FOs and BUTTERS should be stored in tightly-sealed containers away from direct light and heat. Some EOs could be highly flammable, keep away from open flames. Keep all liquids and powders you purchase from Camden-Grey tightly capped and away from the reach of children, the elderly or infirm and pets. Refrigerating butters could adversely affect the consistency of the butter, please join our Forum if you need to learn how to handle, work with and store products.
