    Botanical Name: Santalum Austro-Caledonicum

    Plant Part: Wood

    Country of Origin: New Caledonia

    Method of Extraction: Steam Distillation

Santalum album. India and Indonesia are the two major producers and exporters of sandalwood oil. Sandalwood is native to Ceylon, India, Indonesia and their surrounding islands. The oil is an excellent base and fixative for other high grade perfumes. By itself it is a mild, long-lasting sweet perfume, but the perfume industry finds that it can blend well with other perfumes and does not impart its fragrance when used as a base. There are numerous products that use sandalwood oil.

Sandalwood oil is slightly thick, has a long shelf life and will actually get better as it ages. It has a characteristic sweet, woody odor which is widely employed in the fragrance industry, but more particularly in the higher-priced perfumes. It has excellent blending properties and the presence of a large proportion of high-boiling constituents in the oil (about 90 % santalols) also makes it valuable as a fixative for other fragrances. In India it is used in this manner for the manufacture of traditional attars such as rose attar; the delicate floral oils are distilled directly into sandalwood oil. Blends well with neroli, sweet orange, rose and benzoin. Flashpoint: 200F.

I wasn't sure I wanted to introduce sandalwood into my line or my life. It's pricey and I'm aware of its scarcity. I've found, to my delight, I need so little of Camden-Grey's Caledonia sandalwood to get that wonderfully unique effect. My most recent indulgence is a dab of rose and sandalwood on my wrists. Again, so little is necessary and the scent just envelops me, does not fade. The same combo with ylang ylang in rose water on my hair--don't even get me started!

Deep magical sandalwood. Worth every penny. I love this stuff. Very calming and peaceful, enchanted scent. Even if you don't make anything with this, its worth it just to have a small bottle around for the aromatherapy. I sniff some whenever I feel frustrated or overwhelmed and it clears all that stress out of my life. Only thing I didn't like is the dropper in the bottle. Makes it hard to get any out. You have to tap the back of the bottle to get 1 or 2 drops out. Now that I know that its ok :)

I absolutely love this scent. It is sweet, but has a depth to it. It is a long lasting scent, and one of my favorites. I wish I could buy it by the gallon--it is well worth the price.

This is a gorgeous EO. Scent is soft, sweet, woody and elegant. I use this as a base in my personal homemade perfumes and sometimes will just use a drop on it's own. The scent is reminiscent to the endangered East Indian oil but this oil is slightly lighter. With time though I expect it will develop beautifully. Nice environmentally friendly alternative.

    HOW PRODUCTS ARE DISPENSED...

    BOTTLING/PACKAGING:

Essential oils: Are sold only in the quantities/net weights listed on our website. These oils are shipped to us by the distiller or manufacturer in industry-standard metal or plastic containers and that’s how we ship them to you.

Carrier oils and most other liquids are dispensed in individual HDPE plastic pails or containers with some type of handle, each container holds the purchased net weight of liquid.

Soft butters such as Horsetail and Almond are dispensed in plastic HDPE pails w/metal handles; those butters may remain inside the pails indefinitely when properly stored. Hard butters such as Cocoa are dispensed factory-wrapped in plastic and placed inside a box. Castile Gel is dispensed in a self-contained cubitainer with pouring spout.

NOTE: While the packaging methods mentioned above are generalized, we reserve the right to dispense and ship in any available container. If a customer at any time feels more comfortable transferring an essential or carrier oil to glass, this should be done.

Raw materials/ingredients are sold and dispensed by weight. Many customers ask how many ounces are in a pound, there are 16 ounces in one pound. These are not fluid ounces, they are ounces by weight.

HOW TO STORE: EOs, FOs and BUTTERS should be stored in tightly-sealed containers away from direct light and heat. Some EOs and FOs could be highly flammable, keep away from open flames and from varnished or wood surfaces. Keep all liquids and powders you purchase from Camden-Grey tightly capped and away from the reach of children, the elderly or infirm and pets. Refrigerating butters could adversely affect the consistency of a butter, please join our Forum if you need to learn how to handle, work with and store products.
