20 Easy Uses for Essential Oils

1.Anise oil has been prized by fishermen for decades.. Anise covers up the human scent that scares the  fish away and fishermen rub a few drops into their hands before baiting their lines.

2.To keep your picnic pest free, use lemongrass or citronella essential oils.  Just a few drops in the melted wax of a candle will keep pests away for hours.

3.Rosemary promotes alertness and helps to stimulate the memory.  A few drops of rosemary essential oil on a cotton ball will do a great job of keeping you alert on long car rides and help your information retention while studying for a test.

  1. Selling your home? Try simmering a pot of spices in water on your stove to fill the house with a warm and cheerful scent.  Good herbs to use for this include spices such as clove, cinnamon and vanilla.  Add a few drops of essential oils such as  clove and sweet orange to enhance the effect.

5.Add essential oils to paper-mache paste.  Your resulting art project will not only look good but smell great!

6.Put a few drops of essential oils in inconspicuous areas of such gifts as neck pillows, padded hangers and fabric purses.

7.Enhance your next fire by adding essential oils to the firewood and allowing them to dry thoroughly before putting the log on the fire.  Excellent oils to use for this purpose include cypress, atlas cedarwood, frankincense and myrrh.

  1. Lemon essential oil on a soft cloth makes an excellent copper polish, and you only need a tiny amount!
  2. To make your fridge or freezer extra clean and disinfected, add a few drops of citrus essential oils (lemon, lime, grapefruit, orange, bergamot, mandarin, etc.) to your final rinse water.

10.Simmer a few drops of thyme essential oil in a pan of water on your stovetop, or add it to your humidifier, when colds and flus are going around.

11.A few drops of your favorite essential oil on a cloth added to your dryer load will give a wonderful fragrance to your clothing.

12.Add a few drops of essential oil to the fabric softener (or just to water) in the center dispenser of your washing machine.

13.Revive your scented candle with a drop or two of your favorite essential oil in the melted wax as the candle burns.

14.Clear unwanted cooking or smoking odors by adding a few drops of clove essential oil to a pot of water simmering on your stove.

15.Make a great massage oil for tired, achy muscles or arthritis aches by mixing 1 part sage essential oil and 1 part basil essential oil with 4 parts carrier oil.

16.On a related note, rubbing rosemary or lavender essential oils in a bit of carrier oil on the back of your neck does a great job of easing headache pain.

17.Freshen your carpets by adding 10 drops of your favorite essential oil to a box of cornstarch or baking soda.  Mix/shake thoroughly and let the mixture sit for a few days to absorb.  Then sprinkle it all over the carpets in your home, let sit for an hour or two, and vacuum up.  If you use an insect repelling essential oil such as lavender, it will also help to keep pests out of your carpeting and home!

18.Deodorize your shoes by dropping a few drops of sage or geranium essential oil on an herbal sachet or tissue into your shoe.  Lemon essential oil also works well to dispel funky foot odors.

19.Put a few drops of your favorite essential oil on your vacuum cleaner bag to fill the whole house with fragrance as you clean, or put a cotton ball with a few drops of essential oil in the dust bin of your bagless vacuum.

20.  Keep mice at bay by putting cotton balls dipped in peppermint essential oil in the corners of your kitchen cabinets.
